ADMISSION AND APPLICATION

Application deadlines for admission:

for summer term: 15 January (Non-EU students), 15 March (EU students)
for winter term: 15 July (Non-EU students), 15 September (EU students)

Disciplinary Background

Admission to the master's program is open to students who have completed at least six semesters of a bachelor's degree program comprising a total of 180 CP, or a comparable program, with a focus on the humanities or social sciences, or on mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering, and who demonstrate special aptitude for the program.

A further admission requirement is proof of:

a) At least 6 CP in foundations of philosophy and/or the history of science, and at least 6 CP in logic.
b) For applicants with a degree focused on mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering, additional coursework in the humanities and social sciences totaling at least 30 CP.

In exceptional cases, applicants who fall just short of one or more of these requirements are still encouraged to apply to the program.

Language

The programme will be operated in English (with only a small number of optional courses being taught in German). Potential students whose mother tongue is not English, have to present sufficient skills of the English language (B2 niveau; english version) either via appropriate certificates (TOEFEL, at least 88 points or equivalent tests; University Language Center ZFA) or 8 to 9 years of English in school (with higher school certificate (Abitur)).

The essay has to deal with a thematic or methodic key aspect of the study programme and should also mention the personal interest in this particular aspect. The key aspects of the programme are presented in the module description.
AI (ChatGPT, DeepSeek, etc.) generated essays lead to exclusion from the application process.

2. TOGETHER WITH YOUR ESSAY, HAND IN:

CV
Certificates (language skills, Abitur/higher school certificate, bachelor's degree certificate, Transcript of Records). If you receive your bachelor's degree certificate not until the submission deadline, please contact us.

3. AFTER A SUCCESSFUL WRITTEN APPLICATION YOU WILL BE INVITED FOR AN INTERVIEW (30 MINUTES),

PERSONALLY OR VIA INTERNET.

Non-EU students have to apply online.
Important note: during the online application process you get the option to upload an essay as well a language certificate. These uploads are mandatory for HPS+Logic, even if the form says that they are optional.
